Alert! Phone scams!

Red Alert!

People all over our area have been getting calls from either a “Geek Some-thing-or-other” or from someone claiming to be from “Windows support” or “Microsoft’s Certified Technician Team”, or something similar. This is a scam! Microsoft and its partners DO NOT make unsolicited calls, period.

Do NOT give these people your credit card information! Do NOT run any file they tell you to!

Microsoft,s spokesperson released this statement:

“I can categorically confirm that neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls to help solve your computer problems. If you receive an unsolicited phone call that purports to be from Microsoft and requests that you send personal information, hang up the phone.”

NOTE!! If you do allow these people access to your computer, and then start having doubts, TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF BEFORE TELLING THEM YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR MIND. This is very important, as they can delete your files and even make your computer unusable if they are not able to get your money. Do NOT turn the computer on if it can connect to the internet! Call a professional technician to remove the remote access files first.
